Massapequa card holders may now participate in the Library’s Hotspot lending program!

We are lending out two models of Hotspots from both of our library buildings.

A pocket size 4G Hotspot and a Large 5G Hotspot with larger antennas more bandwidth available.

Use our hotspots for mobile data internet access for WiFi capable devices. (The Large Hotspot has an available Ethernet port for wired devices)

Hotspot Borrowers Must

  • Have a valid Massapequa Public Library card in good standing (no lost items or fines greater than $10)
  • Be 18 years of age or older

GUIDELINES FOR BORROWING AND USE

  • The Hotspots may be borrowed for a 7 day period and may not be renewed.
  • Hotspots may be reserved.
  • Hotspots must be returned to the circulation desk.
  • Fines are $10 per day not to exceed $100.
  • Replacement fee:
    • $100 for pocket size 4G Hotspot
    • $350 for Large 5G WiFi Hotspot
  • Any mobile hotspot that is more than 3 days overdue will be deactivated.

A hotspot gives you mobile data internet access for Wi-Fi capable devices

  1. To Turn On Hotspot: Press and Hold the power button until you see the message: “WELCOME” and then “Please wait…” (use the provided charging cable to charge hotspot as needed)
  2. Tap the power button for the menu when you see “T-Mobile” on the screen (Tap the power button once to wake screen from sleep if it goes blank after turning on)
    a. First tap of the power button shows you the Wi-Fi Name
    b. The next tap shows you the Password
  3. On Your Device: Find the Wi-Fi Name from the hotspot (Settings menus and user interfaces for connecting to Wi-Fi vary by device)
  4. Enter the Password from the hotspot and connect your device
  5. To Turn Off Hotspot: Wake the screen if needed by tapping the power button, then press and hold power button to turn off until you see the “Goodbye” message displayed on the screen

A Large Hotspot gives you 5G and 4G mobile data internet access for multiple WiFi capable devices

  1. To Turn On the Large Hotspot: Press the power button on the back of the device
  2. Wait for the indicator lights on top to turn white indicating a wireless signal and WiFi
  3. On the Large Hotspot: Find the WiFi Network Name (SSID) and Password on the bottom of the device
  4. On Your Device: Select the matching WiFi name and enter the Password to connect
  5. To Turn Off Hotspot: Press the power button on the back of the device

Note: A wired Ethernet connection port is on the back which allows you to connect a wired device

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:      Lending procedures for home use of Hotspot devices

The Massapequa Public Library Hotspot device allows you to connect your Wi-Fi enabled devices – laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc. to access the internet from anywhere.  Borrowers must be 18 years of age and must have a Massapequa Library card in good standing.

  • Borrowers are personally responsible for any damage or loss to any part of the Mobile hotspot or hotspot accessory borrowed from the Library.
  • Replacement cost:
  • Regular Hotspot – $100
  • Large 5G Hotspot – $350

Loan Rules

  • Mobile hotspots can be borrowed for 7 days and cannot be renewed or checked out within 2 days of return.
  • Patrons will be charged $10.00 for each day overdue.  The maximum overdue fine for the hotspot for the regular size is $100 and for the large 5G hotspot is $350.
  • Any mobile hotspot that is more than 3 days overdue will be deactivated.

It is the responsibility of all circulation staff and librarians to make sure this policy is adhered to.
